    Medical Overview

As you returned from lunch, Helen had donned a labcoat and was awaiting your return, "Suit up then," he said with a grin as he pointed to a row of hung coats and various funny looking goggles. Grabbing your medical gear you felt any bit of style you had diminish greatly once the bug-eyed goggles sat upon your face, but an order was an order so once dressed, you simply stood ready for Helen to continue her lecture.

"Now as you all may or may not know bacta is an item that was revolutionary to modern medicine simple due to its ability to heal nearly every wound. Made by refining alahzi, which is grown on alahzi farms in forests and jungles, bacta is truly the miracle medicine. Once the alahzi farm is built you begin harvesting the alahzi with Alahzi-Farmers or with an Alazhixazha, the medical factions' vehicle of choice. Once harvested, it is then processed in a Bacta Refinement Facility to make the final product, bacta. As a rule of thumb, refining yields at best 1/10th of the amount of alazhi you started with in bacta (so 100m3 of alazhi would get you about 10m3 of bacta).

Bacta is used in almost every medical item and medical ship known. Today you will learn about those medical items and about bacta in general. You may also learn how certain factions have managed to turn something so wonderful, into something equally terrible. Shall we begin then?"

    Medicine

"Medical items will let you restore your own, another player's or an NPC's HP. This is very helpful as medical items speed up the healing process. Medical items can be produced by any medical faction and the following items are considered medical items:

    Bacta Patch
    Healing Stick
    Medikit
    Bacta Tank
    Bacta Refill.

Medical factions may also produce 'Stimpacks,' however they temporarily enhance your skills rather than healing any wounds. Therefore when discussing medical items, they are generally left out.

To use a medical item, the following conditions must be met:

    1. You and your target need to be at the same location (in the same medical room for Bacta Tanks).
    2. You and your target must be in the same party.
    3. You and your target must not be part of another medical action.
For Bacta Tanks and Medikits: You need enough Bacta Refills inside the entity.
For Bacta Tanks: The Tank must be deployed in a medical room and you and your target must be in the same room.

While involved in a medical action, neither you nor your target can move. It is also important to note that why you put a patient into a bacta tank, all of their carried items will be dropped onto the floor and they are removed from your party. The inconvenience of having to retrieve everything aside, remember that a Bacta Tank treatment is very expensive and should only be used for critical injuries."

"Whenever in a medical situation, try to defer treatment to a certified Medical Aid (Paramedic, Field Medic, etc) or Medical Doctor. However, in the instances where neither is available you can use the following as a general guide for the use of medical items:

If HP is between 70-100% - Bacta Patch
If HP is between 50-70% - Healing Stick
If HP is between 30-50% - Medikit
If HP is below 30% - Bacta Tank

Motioning to a large empty Bacta Tank which sat in the corner of the room, Helen stood upon a platform directly beside it with a few Bacta Refills at the ready, "Onto the specifics of these large wonderful tanks then."

    Bacta Tanks

"Bacta Tanks can only be deployed in medical rooms. For a bacta tank to be deployed, it must be inside a medical room and no other tanks can be deployed in the same room; you can only deploy one tank per room.

Once deployed, the tank can be loaded with up to a maximum of three Bacta Refills and as soon as a single refill is loaded, the tank cannot be undeployed, nor can that refill be taken out again without wasting it." Stopping yet again, Helen grabbed one of the refills and emptied it into the main chamber as the class watched the healing goo fill one-third of the tank. "If at any point you need to undeploy a partially loaded tank you must first flush out all currently loaded Bacta Refills," he said as he pulled a lever, allowing the refill he had just loaded to run upon you and your fellow classmates shoes. "As you can see by my small demonstration it is not only messy, but wasteful. For your sake, this is the last time you should ever witness a tank being flushed, otherwise you'll get to explain to your leader why you've just wasted their budget."

Hopping down from the small platform, his shoes still displaying a nice sheen unlike the bacta loafers you now found yourself in, he continued, "Once three refills have been loaded, you can apply the tank to a patient (either yourself, another player or an NPC in your party). At that time, the patient will drop all items they're carrying as they are loaded into the tank. Once the healing process is complete, they will be ejected."

"The final subject we're going to touch on briefly today is Counterfeit Medical Items & Drugs."

    Counterfeit Medical Items & Drugs

"For every positive thing in the galaxy, there is always someone who manages to turn that thing into something meant for harm and self gain. In the case of medical items, their negative counterpart is Ryll based drugs. Never to be used under any circumstance, or really even handled, Trader factions may produce counterfeit medical items or drugs which look exactly like some medical items. Mainly made from Ryll, they are much cheaper to produce, however, they can have severely negative after effects and have the potential to harm rather than heal. We will take a closer look at these items later on in this course..."
