    Prospecting Empty Prospecting

Post by Helen Hawk Mon Nov 11, 2013 5:48 pm

    Tutorial on Prospecting

Helen motioned to some workers below, who were working on some prospecting vehicles, "Before you can mine anything, you've got to find it. The work of a miner can be difficult but in some ways they are the backbone of the eXiles Intragalactic Lithology Faction. Without raw materials, production would shut down, and without production we'd all be worthless."

Sending a few tutorials to your datapad, he brought the screens up on a holo-projector, "Lets run through how to prospect..."

    Tutorial

    1. Find your vehicles docked inside your ship

    2. Then find and choose "Manage Piloted Vehicles" in your inventory. Make sure you have 11 other vehicles NPCed.

    4. Undock your vehicles, with the NPCed vehicles following you using the undock button under travel

    5. Go to Cockpit-->Actions-->Prospect

    6. You should see some screen that looks like this. Click on "start prospecting" when you're ready.

    7. Now you'll see you're in the process of prospecting. The hours vary depending on your computer operations skill and the number of vehicles you have with you.

    Prospecting

Prospecting is the act of finding materials for mines to work from. This can be done by two types of vehicles:

    SX-65 Groundhog

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    Max Speed: 60Km/h
    Resource Sensors: 40
Can Go on: Desert, Grassland, Rock, Forest, Glacier, River, Mountain, Crater

    FK-7 Airspeeder

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    Max Speed: 180km/h
    Resource Sensors: 10
Can Go on: Desert, Grassland, Rock, Forest, Glacier, Mountain, Crater, Ocean, Gas Giant, Jungle, River, Swamp and Cave

    Notes:

Do not attempt to travel in any terrain squares not listed for the vehicle you are piloting. Due to Darkness implementation, any attempts to drive the vehicle into non-compatible terrain will be a waste of time since it will not go.
Caves are restricted terrain for both vessels, but you can use the FK-7 airspeeder from atmosphere level/lower orbit and bypass terrain restrictions this way.

    ---------------------

    Usual situation for a prospector:

The best ship to use to transport your hogs/FK's is an Action ship as you can carry 12 of ea in it.

A YT-1210 with a full squad of FK-7s are assigned to you. You fly to atmosphere level/lower orbit level of the entity you are assigned to prospect. There you enter your FK-7 and undock with your squad and start prospecting. After you finished your attempt, you write your report and dock the squad at the YT-1210. Leave the FK-7 and enter the cockpit of your YT-1210. Then you travel at atmosphere level/lower orbit level to the next grid to prospect. Your orders will specify if you have to prospect all possible terrain types or only the one that a Groundhog cannot prospect.

A freighter (usually a Action IV) with a full squadron of hogs are assigned to you. You fly to the entity you are assigned to prospect. There you descend at the first grid to prospect to a ground position that is next to the border to the next grid to prospect. You enter the hog and undock the squad and start prospecting. After you finished your attempt, you write your report and dock the squad at the freighter. Leave the hog and enter the cockpit of your freighter. Cross terrain with your freighter to the next grid you are supposed to prospect. Do not use hogs on terrain without clearance for hogs!
A full squadron of hogs is assigned to you, but no ship to move them. You are dropped on the entity you are assigned to prospect. Move to a ground position that is along the border (any square along column 0 and 21; any square along row 0 and 21). Start prospecting. After you finished your attempt, you write your report. Cross terrain with your hog squad to the next grid to prospect. There you start the next attempt and continue prospecting and crossterraining until you have finished your assigned rows/columns. There is no need to move within the square if you are along one of the borders. Do not use hogs on terrain without clearance for hogs!

           Notes:
Only 1 deposit exists in any grid square.
Ground position does not matter, it is only surface position that does.

    Report format

    Successful attempts:

       Planet Name: [name]
       Surface Position: (x,y) [terrain type]
       Type of Deposit: [deposit type]
       Amount in Units/m2: [value]
       Amount in tons: [value]
       Deposit size (%): [value]

    Unsuccessful attempts:

Prospected with Sensors: [value] Comp Ops: [value]
       (x,y) [terrain type]: No deposits
       (x,y) [terrain type]: No deposits

All unsuccessful attempts should be gathered in one post, by editing in the new data. Only if the skill or the numbers of sensors have changed, a new post should be started containing the new skill/sensor values.

    Extra Information

    Terrain Types and Deposits

Each Terrain type has a percentage of you finding a raw material deposit on it. It is more likely to find a raw material deposit on certain types of terrain.

       Black Hole Terrain 0%
       Cave 10%
       Crater 8%
       Desert 5%
       Forest 3%
       Gas Giant 3%
       Glacier 1%
       Grassland 2%
       Jungle 4%
       Mountain 10%
       Ocean 2%
       River 4%
       Rock 8%
       Sun Terrain 0%
       Swamp 4%
       Volcanic 0%

This Page Shows the different types of depots that could be found on different types of terrain.

    Chances of finding a depot:
The chance to find a deposit depends of the following:

       Searcher's Computer Operations
       Sensors of Equipment
       Terrain Probability
